Guided Cuillin Ridge Traverses & Scrambling on the Isle of Skye
The Isle of Skye is home to the Cuillin Ridge - one of Scotland’s most stunning ridges. It’s like nothing on the mainland and offers some truly unforgettable adventures.
It’s a perfect destination for anyone after a big day out in the mountains with challenging terrain and stunning views for miles. The rock here is called gabbro, and it’s grippy enough to make you feel secure even on exposed sections.
Whether you’re looking for munro-bagging, scrambling or guided rock climbing, our experienced guides are here to help you have a great day out.

The Inaccessible Pinnacle
The In Pinn is Scotland's most infamous Munro and the only one that requires rock climbing to reach the summit (graded moderate). We’ll guide you safely to the top so you can focus on enjoying one of the most iconic peaks in the UK. To get off the In Pinn, we abseil back down to the ridge and walk off. It can be combined with nearby munros or works great as a one-off hit.

The Cuillin Ridge Traverse
A full traverse of the Cuillin ridge is considered one of the greatest challenges in Britain's mountains. It typically takes 2 days, with a bivvy along the ridge. If you’re particularly fit, with previous mountaineering experience, it’s possible to do it in a single (very big!) day. We’ll help you decide what suits your goals and experience level.

Cuillin Munros
The Black Cuillin is home to 11 Munros rising between 918 - 992 metres. These are all fairly technical, but our guides help you navigate the exposed terrain and scrambling. We usually cover 2-3 Munros per day, so a full Munro course is normally 4-5 days booked over a 4-6 day block to allow for weather or a rest.

Other Skye Adventures
It’s easy to focus on the Cuillin’s high peaks, but Skye offers amazing adventures for all abilities, including easier scrambles and mountaineering. Maybe you’d like to try climbing on a sea cliff, or go hiking and wild camping on the long-distance Skye Trail?

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need previous climbing experience to do stuff on the Cuillin Ridge?
You don’t need to be an experienced climber, we can teach you everything you need to know. However, you do need a reasonable level of fitness as the days are long with lots of ascent (and descent) because we start and end at sea level.
How long are the days?
Expect single days to take between 6-9 hours. For a full traverse, it’s pretty chunky with lots of scrambling. Normally, we’re looking at 2x 12-hour days, with a night on the ridge. Pack weight is usually about 6kg incl. your overnight gear. Sometimes a prep day is good before doing a traverse, but this is something we can discuss.
When is the best time of year to visit Skye?
All year! Spring is particularly fantastic, but so is winter. Generally, the spring/summer scrambling and traverse season runs from May-September.
What gear do I need to bring?
We can provide all climbing equipment. Please check our kit list for more information on what you should bring.
